I've spent 1000's hours in Ubuntu server ( and came out of an U18 shell to write this) but I always put Mint on Desktops

I agree.  Mint is definitely the easiest and has the most drivers available out of the box.  It also has the best OTB HiRez/multi screen support without having to do much if anything to make minor adjustments.

I've used Ubuntu since version 6 as my main desktop system (non-gaming). I haven't really had huge reasons to use much else, but I think if I ever were to divorce from Ubuntu (which may happen next time I upgrade, since Ubuntu isn't what it used to be, imo) I'll be giving Mint a try.

This. Cinnamon is a pleasure to use, unlike the unrepentant WM on Ubuntu.
